Movies

Unfortunately, movies in English are hard to come by. Munich theaters regularly have English showings. Please note it is recommended to make a reservation for your seats ahead of time. Here is the website for scheduled showings: www.cinema-muenchen.com

On most Tuesdays, the cinema in Braunau (Austria) currently shows movies in English. Their web site is: www.movieplexx.at

While you can rent videos in Germany, they will only be in the PAL format. In Burghausen and the surrounding area, they are also only available in the German language version. DVD players from the U.S. will only play DVDs from the U.S. unless you have a codefree model. Codefree DVDs are legally modified with a special chip inside that allows you to play movies from any of the six or seven worldwide zones. Most all DVD movies (if they originate in the U.S.) will have an English soundtrack available so you can rent DVD movies here and play them on a regular German DVD player. You can order a codefree DVD player over the internet but it is best to bring one with you. You will not find them in the stores here. (They can even be difficult to find in the U.S. but easy to find on the internet.)
